Eavesdrop on a teenager's conversation and you might feel like you're listening to a foreign language. Totes Mcgoats? Mackin' on the biddies? Ragin' hair? Just WTF are these kids saying to each other?

Ah, but that's the point: Teen slang is meant to be indecipherable -- to parents, and to other teens. And though the lingo has evolved over the years, teenspeak is as old as the hills (think "groovy" from the 60s, and "radical" from the 80s).

Joe Levy, editor-in-chief of Maxim Magazine, and pop culture expert Lola Ogunnaike visited TODAY to talk about teen slang -- where it comes from, how to interpret it and why grown-ups should avoid using it. (Don't want to be l4m3rz, right?)

What slang have you overheard (and puzzled over) from your kids? What slang do you wish would come back into vogue?

Here's more TODAY Moms content that will make you LOL. For reals.
