I recently wrote a post for Momformation all about a Snowman that “shreds” and I thought it might be fun extend the paper shredding to create a couple winter animals. We’re recycling our shredded paper, straight from our electronic shredder. I could even see a few old bills in pile! But it does make for fun paper glitter, as we created a furry polar bear and feathery snow owl – although each of my kids thought it was a white penguin, so we can call it that too!

If you don’t have an electronic shredder, you can easily use scissors or a paper trimmer to slice up some old -ready to be recycled- paper.

Supplies for Paper Glittered Winter Animals:

  • shredded paper
  • white school or tacky glue
  • pencil
  • 1 sheet of cardstock paper
  • extra colored paper scraps
  • 2 googly eyes per creature

1. With your pencil, draw your image. I’m NOT an artist, so it’s a good thing it doesn’t matter as the paper will cover up my sad excuse for a polar bear!

2. Add glue to the entire inside of the animal’s body.

3. Grab a chunk of shredded paper and sprinkle it onto your glue. My paper shreds are 1-2 inches long, so I had to scrunch and bend some of them to stay within the outline. Press the paper shreds down, making sure they are in place and then shake off any extra paper that didn’t stick into the box.

4. Glue on your googly eyes and nose. Cut and glue your colored paper to make any embellishments you’d like to add.

Here is our snowy owl, complete with a little red bow… or white penguin if that’s what your brain is telling you!

And here’s our snowman too. He turned out cute with fun googly eyes and pom pom buttons!
